The low weight of 26.5lb helps on the climbs back up, along with the efficient quad link suspension which
effectively minimises bobbing and helps isolate the power going to the wheels from the terrain below.
The whyte 120 , as its name suggests has 120mm of suspension front and rear which is optimal for fast efficient xc riding.
The front section of the frame is made of butted aluminium, whilst the rear swing arm is made of carbon fibre. The dropouts are modular allowing future upgrades, but come as standard with the new 142mm bolt through axles to hold on the rear wheel. This offers stiffness and security to the back of the bike, (i.e. the wheel cannot come out of the frame when you don't want it to!) This matted to the rockshox front fork with a bolt through axle make for a stiff chassis.
A sram 2 x 10 drivetrain packs all the gears you need in a lightweight compact package thats shifts smoothly.
The 2012 whyte 120 frame is 680gms lighter than last years model.
Ian Alexander, whyte bikes main designer below talks about some features of the whyte frames and the quad link design, at their UK development centre.
